According to Sunset magazine, torrone classico is an Italian specialty and one of many confections associated with the Christmas feast. Most families eat it unadorned, but I have special plans for my candy.
I had to order mine online at Amazon. It's available in Hazelnut or almond. I was told that Cost Plus World Market has it around the holidays. My particular Cost Plus only got one case in last Christmas, and it was gone in no time. This is a candy that you want to snatch up when you see it or you will miss out.
Torrone classico is a hard almond nougat. Its a very brittle candy and not to be confused with it's cousin soft torrone morbido.
It is easily chopped or crushed.I ran mine through a food processor to get a fine chop.

ReplyDeleteI had it for the first time when we were at my cousin's house for dinner around Christmas. My dad grew up on torrone but hasn't had it for years, so he was very happy that day. I've been tempted to make it homemade, but you have to buy wafer paper.
