Happy Birthday K!

Adolescence can be a challenging time for young women. Their reactions to the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty often depend on how they feel about themselves. Those with the strongest self-esteem are less likely to engage in socially unacceptable behaviors. While mistakes are made by all teenagers, those with the most self confidence will learn from them and adapt their behavior, rather than repeating the same mistake again.

My daughter just turned 13! Lets pause a moment and say a prayer for her, me. There now, we can go on. I'll be o.k. As I was saying, I have a teenager. More specifically, a teenage girl. Ouch, that hurts just typing it.
She went with me to do childwatch at the Y the other day and she was helping me with the kids.
They were all sitting around coloring pictures when K.(my daughter) drew a picture of what she wanted her birthday cake to look like. Marbled cake with different colored frosting and hearts on the side.
Well, its a women's prerogative to change her mind, so we went with sponge Bob. I don't know why everybody loves an under ware clad sponge.
What is it about Bob that captures the heart? And don't get me started about Patrick.
Here is the finished cake. Not to bad, huh? I know it made one
little girl teenager happy! I aim to please.

The surprise was inside. Oh it was marbled alright. In a checkered pattern. I learned a few things along the way. Like chill the cake before you cut it for cleaner lines. She thought I was a genius. I was feeling satisfied! It wasn't exactly symmetrical, it was my first checkered cake. And without the use of any special pans,

A big THANK YOU to Anne from Simply Anne's She gave me the instructions and the inspiration! Click hereto see her beautiful creation!

  17. I was browsing through blogs and made my way through this post. Impressive cake. I might try a checkered one myself now (although I'm not much of a baker so I'm prepared for the oven to blow up lol).

Also, I'm 22 and had a Spongebob cake for my birthday a few months ago. Yep. At 22. I don't know what it is about that little yellow sponge but I just love that show. So your daughter is not alone. :)
